Why The Second Story?
Because life rarely follows the first draft.
We never chose the name because of a second floor.
We chose it because life is full of second stories.
Some chapters are planned. Some find you along the way. And that's the beauty of a second story.

The Gable Building
Rooted in places that already have a story.
The Gable Building is a 1915 mixed-use building in downtown McCormick. Today, it brings together long-term commercial space, annual residential leasing, and The Retreat, a furnished residence for stays of 30 nights or longer.
It is one meaningful part of a portfolio that also includes homes in Tampa and Charleston. The places are not meant to look identical. What connects them is the care behind them.

The values behind the name
A name chosen for what it stands for.
George M. Gable spent more than forty years building through PLG Construction, serving in the South Carolina National Guard, and showing up for the people around him. He was known for hard work, generosity, and the kind of dependability that strengthens a community.
The Gable Building carries his name because those values are worth continuing. They shape how we care for our properties, how we treat the people who live in them, and how we invest in the communities around them.
Who we are
The people behind The Second Story.

Hope & Beau
The Second Story brings together the places we own, care for, and believe still have more to offer. From McCormick to Tampa and Charleston, each one has its own character, its own purpose, and its own next chapter.
We preserve what makes each place distinct, care for it with the future in mind, and prepare it well for the people who may one day stay or make a home there. The properties are not all the same, but the care behind them is.
